Opponent of Mt. Soledad Cross Has Terminal Cancer
Philip Paulson, who sued the city of San Diego 17 years ago to force the removal of the Mount Soledad cross from public property, has been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer...
Paulson said doctors discovered he has a fast-growing tumor on his liver and estimated he has four to 12 months to live if chemotherapy is unsuccessful. He was told July 31...
The adjunct college professor who teaches technology courses said he would of course like to live longer, but has accepted his fate and is not pondering the question of life after death.
“I want people to understand how an atheist dies,” he said. “I don't have any problem with death. When it's time to go, it's time to go. When you die, you're in a total unconscious state. I'm not into that wishful thinking. There's no by-and-by in the sky when you die.”

In the story, Paulson goes on to say that he fully expects his opponents to say that this illness is "God's Revenge". Again this poor dumb bastard shows his ignorance. God doesn't "curse" folks with illness. That would be like saying GM is at fault for your car engine blowing up because you were too stupid to check the oil! We are biodesigned to last X amount of years, it's how we treat our bodies during that run that determines whether we get the full measure of time allowed. It's simple cause and effect. Liver cancer is a horrible way to go. I've seen that movie. But really any cancer is a miserable end. I really don't think this guy will see next spring, let alone Christmas. (But being an athetist and all, I'm sure that's not a big deal to him.) I can only wish him a good death, surrounded by friends and family (if he has any) as his liver shuts down, his skin turns pumpkin orange and he drifts off into a coma.
I'm sure some will think it would be nice if he gets his mind right before the end and yes, it would make for a great "Guidepost" feature story, but I ain't gonna lose sleep over it.
And neither is the ACLU, apparently- they already have a new proxy client, spitting image of Paulson, idealogically, all ready to step in and continue this tiresome and ridiculous battle.

From an old song...."I don't believe in Heaven and I'll Pray there ain't no Hell"...guess he's gonna find out one way or the other....
Even though he and his ilk piss me off big time...May God have Mercy on His Soul......that really hurt to say that....
